Hi,

I've spent a huge amount of time over the Christmas Holidays trying to compile the
hdlcutils from ax25-utils-1.2.42a-glibc with my RedHat 5.1 system (Kernel 2.0.35). The
aim to get a soundmodem up and running.

By following the history on this mail list, I discovered the RedHat .rpm installation
of the ax25 utils, and that worked fine with my TNC220 system, but I discovered it
missed out all the hdlcutil stuff, such as sethdlc, smmixer and smdiag.

OK, not to be discouraged , I uninstalled it, got hold of a distribution of XForms
(ver 0.88-1), and the ax25-utils-1.2.42a-glibc tar file, and by following the linux
hams mail archive, I spent a day hacking rose.h and in.h as per N5USR's mail. I also
made a few changes to Makefile.include to get my XForms and includes from the right
place.

Bingo! it compiled and ran, but Doh!! it did not compile the hdlcutils. So back to
square one. I tried to "make" the hdlcutils alone and it bombed with a page full of
"redefined" warnings and finally an error.

Has anyone ever got hdlcutils compiled sucessfully with RedHat glibc and have they any
tips for me?

Yours Hopefully
