I've put together a web page with info on setting TNC audio levels and
other issues relating to packet radio RF/modem configuration. It's not
quite finished yet (in particular, the info on optimizing the receive side
is barely started, but there's a good description of why overdriving the
TX audio into your radio is a Bad Thing, complete with pictures. I also
describe a couple of ways you can set your audio to the proper level with
or without test equipment, and have some info on the audio response of
various radios.
I was going to hold off on announcing this until I had a chance to do some
more testing and finish work on the RX side, but that's going to be a month
or more from now, so here goes.
