Hello,

I am very new to Linux Kernel-AX.25 an TCP/IP in AX.25.
I am wondering about a big Packet Loss of 30% and more
on a "low distant connection" via Radio (and only a
few hops, but these hops might be part of the Problem).
The Situation is as follows:

* Linux 2.0.36 with ax25 and axutils 42a are generally
working on a local PC and a remote machine, but they
both might be not very well configured (I don't know,
because I am too new to the subject).

* Remote PC:
-Kernel has an ax0 connected with kissattach
   via /dev/ptyqf
-route add -net 44.0.0.0 (...) done
  -some ARPs are done
-some AX25-Routes are defined with axparms
-ifconfig tells me, that there are no errors

-Linuxnet (V 1.16) connected to the kernel via /dev/ttyqf
  -Linuxnet connected to an RMNC

(9k6-70cm RF between RMNC and the local Station)

* Local PC:
-Kernel has an ax0 connected via kissattach
   to /dev/ttyS0
  -TNC3 with 3net on /dev/ttyS0
(Packet Radio with LinKT works very fine.)
-route add -net 44.0.0.0 (...) done
  -some ARPs are done, too
-some AX25-Routes are defined with axparms
-ifconfig tells me that there are no errors

I gave the Xnet-Nodes IP-Adresses and I can ping each
of them from the local PC (pinging the 3net) and the
remote PC (pinging the linuxnet).
Ping between the both Xnet-Nodes does not work. I don't
use the IP-Router of the Xnet-Nodes. All Routes are defined
via axparms.
I can ping from both sides the far ends and I can start
some services like telnet via the IP-Link. But the
Line-Quality is so poor. Packet-loss is about 30% and
more, connections get asleep.
If I simply use AX.25 (and get some binary stuff from the
Digipoint-Mailbox on the remote-PC connected to the Linuxnet
via tfkiss and TNT) i get a throughput of about 4000 to
5000 Baud in both directions. So the RF-Link seems ok.

* Where can I tune the Performance, what am I doing wrong?
* Can I get some advantages using the Xnet-IProuter?
(And how can I get use of it?)
* There are special IP-Modes chooseable via axparms and
for the Xnet-Nodes. What does it mean? (DG and VC)
* In the current configuration I have to add ARPs
manually. How can this be done automatically? (I want,
that others can use the Machines for TCPIP connections.)

Please help, reading and reading the Manual again and again
doesn't help me in this moment anymore but makes me sick ;-)
