I confess this is not entirely linux related. I've never been on
9600 packet before but now that I have a 70cm FM rig I was eager
to try it out. It's a Kenwood TM-V7A. I have a YAM which I built
ages ago and haven't really used.
So I connected up the YAM to the V7A (shame on Kenwood for using
6-pin mini din plugs, obscure AND hard to work with). It works
great on 1200 packet, but nothing happens on 9600. Well, to be honest
it's late at night and there isn't much activity, so I can't really
tell what callsigns are valid.
But my main question is: I have a 70cm hand held which I tuned up
on the same frequency as the V7A. Should I expect to hear anything
on that rig when transmitting packet? When the YAM transmits,
the V7A transmits OK, but the squelch doesn't always open on the handheld.
(It does if I key the microphone on the V7A though.)
I figure this is reasonable since it's not really transmitting FM,
but FSK. Right? So what should I do with the squelch on the V7A
for receiving?
thanks
