Look, this is a discussion newsgroup. Posting binaries, even when
specifically
asked to, is not appropriate behaviour. The best way to do it is to put
it up
on a web page or ftp site.

Hi,
 Double check your hardware settings first. Like, are you using quality
68pin cable and the cable is properly terminated at the end by
putting your HD at the end connector and properly jumpered (termination
enabled)?

On what address is the card?
The driver probes a couple of addresses, as defined in
/usr/src/linux/drivers/net/eepro.c.
It probably looks like this:

/* First, a few definitions that the brave might change. */
/* A zero-terminated list of I/O addresses to be probed. */
static unsigned int eepro_portlist[] =
   { 0x300, 0x210, 0x240, 0x280, 0x2C0, 0x200, 0x320, 0x340, 0x360, 0};

Make sure your card is on one of these addresses. Also, it is a good idea to don't have
any other cards on any of these addresses.
A last thought: if the card is PnP, disable it.

Seems to work for 2.2.6 and 2.2.7 in addition to 2.2.5 (you have to use
'insmod -f sbliv.o-2.2.5' for it to work). The driver isn't perfect, the
card plays but is extremely choppy with TiMidity, works with x11amp.
Not perfect but definitely useable.

Alrighty, trying to hit as many relevant linux newgroups with tihs wonderful
question (as many are wondering since some people have hard disks larger

Is there any "easy" way to install linux on one hard disk larger than 8.4gb

Subject: DFP digital LCD monitor, Matrox card, framebuffer/X woes
Date: Sun, 02 May 1999 23:30:59 GMT

   I am trying to get XFree86 running on my new computer. I have an
unusual monitor and graphics card: an IBM T55D digital flat panel LCD
display connected to a Matrox Millenium G200 with a DFP interface.
The card, which came with the monitor, is very finicky and not at all
the same as the standard analog Millenium G200, so the SVGA server
(the normal choice for this card) doesn't work. Therefore I have
resorted to using the framebuffer (fbDev) server with the framebuffer
support offered in the 2.2.5 kernel.

   Problem 1: when I pass values to the kernel on bootup to specify
the framebuffer resolution, I can't get 1024x768 to work. 640x480 and
800x600 work fine, but when I give it an appropriate mode number for
1024 it either crashes (0x316) or gives an "Unknown Mode ID" message
(0x317-318).

   Problem 2: I can't get the XF86_FBDev server to work, in any
resolution. The messages show that the server is deleting all the
modes in XF86Config and coming back with a "no valid modes" message
(the entire text is appended below). I specified a very generous
range of horizontal and vertical sync values in the monitor section of
XF86Config (it's a digital monitor, so these numbers don't really mean
anything).

   I'm fairly new to linux, as my stilted attempts to explain my
problems probably indicate. If anyone has an idea as to how to
resolve one or both of these problems I would be in their debt.

  Thank you,

  John Callaway

Obviously, english is not your first language.
Although you haven't given us any information to assist you,
I can make a guess at your problem. You have purchased and installed
a cheap modem of the "WinModem" variety. These modems are only supported
in a Microsoft Win32 environment; that includes Windows 95, Windows 98,
and Windows NT, but does *not* include Linux, MSDOS, OS/2, BeOS, BSD Unix,
or anything else.

If you do not have a WinModem, then please post some details.
We would need to know...
a) the make and model of modem
b) the contents of your /proc/interrupts and /proc/ioports files
c) what you were trying to do (Minicom, PPP, what?)
d) the configuration files associated with what you were trying to do
e) the error logs or messages that you got when you tried to do what you
   tried to do

and I'm sure there's more.

Rodney,

Yes I am using the accelerator. This is what (part of) pnpdump gives me:

# Card 1: (serial identifier 0f ff ff ff ff 40 00 ed 25)
# Vendor Id IOM0040, No Serial Number (-1), checksum 0x0F.
# Version 1.0, Vendor version 0.1
# ANSI string -->iomega 4Mb/S PNP tape controller<--

Make sure isapnp configures the card correctly.

I've compiled ftape-4.02, and the only options I've changes in MCONFIG
are CONFIG_M686 and FDC_OPT. Set the DMA,IRQ and BASE in the FDC_OPT
parameter to what isapnp reports. Then compile and install.

In my rc.local (where I load the modules at boot) I've specified:

insmod /lib/modules/2.0.36/misc/ftape.o ft_fdc_driver=ftape-internal,none,none,none
insmod /lib/modules/2.0.36/misc/zftape.o ft_major_device_number=27
insmod /lib/modules/2.0.36/misc/ftape-internal.o ft_fdc_threshold=15
ft_fdc_rate_limit=2000

First I've set ft_fdc_rate_limit to 4000. This gave a lot of errors, both on reading
and writing. The 2000 runs without errors. I still have to figure out what
the optimal value is here.

With the 2000 I get about 9-10MB/min. With the 4000 I got around 12, with a
lot of repositioning.

HTH,
Martin

 I'd like to get a video card with mature support in Linux and one with
some type of MPEG decoding for DVD. I understand that DVD for Linux is not

Windows. I've heard there is an ATI card that would satisfy, but that it
is not fully supported in Linux?
 Is something new coming out (support for card X, a new super card Y,
etc.) in the next 3-4 weeks?
 Should I just get a fully supported card for Linux and get a decoder card
when DVD for Linux matures? :P
 Of any recommended card with only partial Linux support, what are the
odds full support will come?

Thanks,

Before you reboot your system, try creating a file in the root

Nah, have you try it out? The solution for your problem is to edit the halt
script inside /etc/rc.d/init.d/halt and add the -p at the following line:

command="halt" -> command="halt -p".

Try it and bark at us if this doesn't work on your machine.

        Or, alternately, just use the control panel (if distro==redhat).

Subject: Where find the address range?

Does anyone know where I may find the address range of my loaded network card
inside Linux? I know the address is 0x300, but that is only the beginning
address. What I want to know is the full range. It is not documented
anywhere in my card's manual, but I believe the kernel returns this value,
after it loads the card, in some log file of sorts, but I don't know where.

Thanks

but the tyan is AMI bios. the asus is award.

award is more flexible and configurable (most folks believe this).

I would go asus first and tyan ONLY if you can't get the asus.
