Date: 26 Aug 1999 21:42:35 +0200

Hello,

At last, the newly released 2.2.12 kernel made my onchip sound
controller on the ASUS P5A motherboard work (Super7 slot, AMDK6/400).

configure the kernel with
CONFIG_SOUND=m

CONFIG_SOUND_ESSSOLO1=m

etc...

and add into /etc/conf.modules
alias sound esssolo1
#alias midi opl3
#options opl3 io=0xD400
#options sb io=0xD400 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=5 mpu_io=0xB800

At last, the speaker gave some music (and cdplay works).

Hello,

I know that the Red Hat HW compatibility list says:

"We currently do not support hardware raid in any of the Adaptec AIC78xx
controllers."

   and

"Currently you cannot install Red Hat Linux's root partition onto a raid
device."

Unfortunately, I have to work with such hardware and I was wondering if
someone out there has gotten HW RAID up and running on the 78xx series,
preferrably booting off the RAID as well. Any pointers would be of help as
the HOWTOs seem obsolete or not applicable. If not, a "got it going on
Software RAID" note would also be appreciated. Thanks!

As far as I know none of the Onstream drives work yet.

At least the RedHat site says so.

Yes, most winmodems have
something like pentuim 200 required.
for a proper modem, you'd never need a P200 or 166, to drive a modem.
Also, all external modems are NOT winmodems. If there is a external modem of the
same type and make, compare the
hardware requirements, if the internal modem has higher processor requirements,
then its probably a win modem :-(
BTW, its a misconception that all PCI modems are winmodems. not all of them
are...

At Best Buys, I can get them for around $16. Most are around $1.50/CD. The
Sonys were $18 for 10-pack plus 5 free. Somehow, I think BJs wholesale
charged me for the 5 "free" cds.

Hi,

i'm newbying on linux... installed redhat 6.0... with X... gnome&kde
great on my humble Cyrix 200Mx

all great? No :-(

if i remove the scsi card (my HP scanner need it) it's easy to setup my
Creative SB 32 Pnp (no big deal, it's only to run sndconfigurator),
then i have music (lots of) while working with X... :-)

BUT if i put the scsi card on, then i have a msg of conflict while
booting:
something like: "resource conflict allocating 32 bits at io 200.."

Red Hat setup don't have an option to install this card...
searched lots of documentation & only thing i found is that the card is
supportable -- but no how to install it!

are there any way to install it? (an easy one, please, i'm newbying,
remember?)
or, at least, a way to make the card invisible to the system?

Tks a lot

I have an Acer-6206A CD-RW drive installed on my AMD K6-2 400MHz running
SuSE-6.1. I also upgraded my cdrecord to 1.8a24. I have been having
some bad luck in trying to burn an audio as well as an ISO9660 CD. I
have attached the error message output by the cdrecord when trying to
burn an audio CD. As can be seen from the output message, the cdrecord
software could detect the CD-RW drive as well as the CD-R media, but
barfed with "Input/output error" even in a dummy mode.

I am wondering if anyone can kindly help me in this matter. TIA.

Hmm, from what you are saying, it sounds like we have exactly the same
problem... bummer... I thought I might have something set wrong....

My machine is a brand new celeron 333, and the buffer never runs out.

The cdr disks I've been using are Maxells, which I believed to be fairly
good quality.

Many times, I'll get the error message in the fixating stage, but the last
disk I tried (Offbrand "GQ?" CDRW) completed just fine, but wouldn't verify.
There is a note in the readme that states that not all drives support
verify, so we may just be unlucky in that regard.

In Windows, I think I remember successfully burning one CDR, but most (about
8 so far, I'm a glutton for punishment) end up as frisbees. And of course,
CDRW's work just fine.
