the volume is on max and the status says "playing", but neither the timer,

nor the bar thing that slides while playing moves, nor do i get any sound.

5150 mode number end with EQ or EG? If EG its probally QIC-02, EQ
means QIC-36.
        If its QIC-02 the next step is to recompile your kernal to
install the qic-02 serial devices. You will need to find the IO
address and IRQ of the board to get it to fly though. If you  can find
out what the default IO address and IRQs of the qic-02 drivers of
linux. According to the
/usr/src/linux-2.0.37pre10/include/linux/tpqic02.h
 file the following are the default
settings.

        I pulled up the linux-2.0.37/drivers/char/tpqic02.c driver and
here is a little of info that might help you

        I believe there is a QIC-02 Howto somewhere that will be of
use to you. I know I saw one when I was looking for info on my SCSI
Wangtek 5150ES drive. Being my drive is Scsi 2 compliant, the qic-02
info was not of much use to me.
        If you have the original software for dos for the drive. that
info about the card's settings will be present. use that info and
addjust your config files accordingly. You will need the dos software
to FORMAT those tapes too! unless they are already formatted.
