What solution is that?
Because you have included no context, I have no idea what you're
talking about.

That should be possible. I remember seeing (but not using) software
designed to do just that. A server on one computer monitors the UPS;
another computer monitors what the other computer says.
But this should also be possible using rexec/rsh/rwhatever. The other
approach is just a tiny bit cleaner.

But what if it doesn't? At that point, I can ping other hosts
on the LAN but inbound and outbound TCP connections (ftp and
telnet) simply hang.
I've posted to the tulip mailing list at scyld (sp?) and have
gotten several suggestions, but no solution yet. If anyone here
has a good idea on what to try, I would appreciate hearing it.
If you want more details, see my posts on the mailing list or

There are a lot of discussions about 3ComUSR PCI
modems, here is what I got with my particular modem.
1. Under Windows, it uses COM5. Under Linux, it was
not automatically detected.
2. With 2.2.12 kernel, "cat /proc/pci" showed this
serial controller at 0xec00, irq 10. I then issued
setserial /dev/ttyS2 port 0xec00 auto_irq autoconfig
I can now use the modem as ttyS2.
3. With 2.0.36 kernel, "cat /proc/pci" reported the
same thing, but the same "setserial" command halted
the machine (I could not even telnet to it through
a network card). After reboot, I issued
setserial /dev/ttyS2 port 0xec00 irq 10 autoconfig
and now it works fine as ttyS2.
Hope this is helpful to those who have similar problems.

Yes - you need support for either the ES1370 or the ES1371 chip.

Tks all. It works now.
I must run the SCA drives at 20MB/s instead at
40MB/s. The adapter actually make the drives slower.
No more errors when I turn down the speed.

Subject: Matrox g450 LE under Mandrake
Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2000 15:45:45 GMT
Hi All,
I've recently got a matrox g450 LE, the one with 16MB of SDR ram,
instead of the DDR. After getting this working fine under win2k, I
started a fresh install of Mandrake 7.2 on a new HD.
All the nice graphical install worked, and the new graphical services
starting screen worked, but when it came to X, nothing would work. I
tried the settings it told me to use, and I got a blank screen.
Fiddling with the settings using Xconfigurator has given me various
things -
Xfree 4.0.1 tends to lock the computer up when using the g400 driver
(which is the same as the g450 I presume)
Xfree 3.3.6 (I think) sometimes locks, sometimes doesn't. However, a
development is that my monitor makes that lovely high pitch whizzing
noise.
I've tried pretty much all the types of monitors (I have an old 14 inch
that does 640x480 at 70Hz, 800x600 at 60Hz), and different resolutions,
but it's very difficult trying all of them because I pretty much have
to reboot each time.
One other thing is the settings in BIOS - would this have any effect -
eg. Graphic aperture size, US/USCW all these sorts of things.
Basically, it's a bit of a bad situation because now my main OS is
win2k, and I don't want to have to go back because of a graphics card
problem and X.
Cheers for any help,
Andrew.

Hi,
I have just installed SuSE-7.0 Pro on my Athlon system witha D-Link
DFE-530TX+ Fast Ethernet NIC. The system is running with a
linux-2.4.0-test10 kernel with a built-in RealTek RTL-8139 PCI Fast
Etherhet Adapter support. I can connect to the Internet through a
LinkSys BEFSR41 EtherFast Cable/DSL router at a speed of 200KBps.
However, the /var/log/messesges keeps registering the following error
message:

I'm also seen it that its supported by XFree86-4.0.1 but have not tried

I haven't used modules for such cards but compiled support into the
kernel. Then the kernel will find the card by itself at boot. However,
the Ethernet HowTo has a chapter of its own about poor NE2000 clones.
Some cards has to be rejumpered to another address to be usable.

the parameter to pass is
mem=128M
and it should probably be added somewhere in lilo's configuration files,
if you use lilo to boot. Your SuSE handbook, or the SuSE knowledge base
on the www should be able to tell you how and where exactly.
Good luck,

I'm having a hell of a time here. My kernel keeps dumping all over the
place and the computer just suddenly reboots from time to time. It all
started when I upgraded to redhat 7. I'm running the latest developement
kernel.
All of the kernel guys seem to think I have a hardware problem. I ran
memtest for a day with no problems at all.
I've got a PIII 550, Asus MB, Matrox G400 Marvel, 128 meg ram, SB Live,
IBM Token ring card, Haughpauge TV Tuner, ummm I think that's it. I'll
post some stuff from /proc to see if that helps. Here is a couple of the
errors I get when the kernel dumps too. At the bottom is the /proc stuff.

I've been running software raid since 2.2.6 or so, but I never tried
the RAID stuff in mke2fs (don't believe it was there). So to isolate the
problem to RAID code or e2fs code, you might try leaving the -R out and
see if it suddenly works.
Actually, I never ran with a spare, either, I just replace a failed
drive and "hotadd" the drive back in, so you are in some uncharted water
there, as far as I can help.
