I had slow connection when I first set up my connection. I copied modem
initialization command used by minicom (appearing as first line when you
start minicom) into my script to send it to modem, and it solved the problem.
Here is that line in my case for your convenience:
AT S7=45 S0=0 L1 V1 X4 &c1 E1 Q0
