I recommend to my friends (worldwide) Redhat 6.0 or SuSE 6.x

I don't agree with you. If you short on space - then you can select
MANUALLY what to install and whats not.

Well then, check your machine. I have here a Linux workstation which
hasn't been rebooted OVER A YEAR with X windows running perfectly for
several months. So don't blame redhat for this.
