Actually, this is a well-known RH6.1 upgrade/installation bug.
I think somebody even posted about it in the list.

The install/upgrade script is missing a break inside
a switch statement, causing it to fall-thru and set
the type to an ext2 partition (IIRC). Anyhow, you can
fix it yourself by mounting it by hand (/mnt/sysimage
I think), or download the two new updated install images
from RH (look at the errata section). The boot diskette might
be enough, otherwise get the updates one as well and at
the prompt use 'text updates'.
