IMAP is a mail protocol that allows a mail client to read email without
downloading all the letters, by viewing the headers list, and only
downloading a letter as per a user's request. it also allows you to store

i always had the impression that pine is less visual complex then
netscape. in what ways is it more diss-orienting? it might be that its
some behaviour that can be configured...

there is at least one command-line utility that can decode MIME
attachments, and it is called 'mmencode'. it works in a way similar to
'uuencode'. not sure how it would have multi-part atachments, though.
