How can you get an input from a SQL table w/o a SQL server and using the SQL select statement ? Its like asking "can I use a computer w/o a cpu or an OS ?"
ahmm.. OTOH - you can always directly read and update the binary myISAM files maintained by the mySQL server - but that would probably be (a) lots of work and (b) won't be worth it on the long run : for a lot more development time you'll get less performance and less stability then using the database server.
