Which MTA are you using? Some MTA's store their own copy of resolv.conf if
you run them in chroot jail.

Postfix  for example stores it in /var/log/spool/postfix/etc/resolv.conf by
default.

Or maybe you configured the MTA to use local interface/network to connect?
