Well, what do you know....
Guess that after 5 hours of splashing in this swamp I got my self worked out :)
Anyway, thanks Lior, after removing all XMMS remains from my machine your solution worked on the first try.

Thanks,
Amit.

Well,
After investigating the problem a bit I found out that because of licensing problems between RH and the mp3 decoder inventors (or something like that) they couldn't include it in the XMMS rpm for RH8.0.
I then d/l the following RPMs:
xmms-1.2.7-22.i386.rpm
xmms-devel-1.2.7-22.i386.rpm
xmms-mp3-1.2.7-22.i386.rpm
Installed them, and restarted XMMS and nothing...
The most annoying thing of all is that when trying to run a .mp3 file... the player converts it automatically to a .wav file with the same name that he places (again automatically) in my home directory...

I've always used xmms-mpg123 from http://havardk.xmms.org/dist/xmms-1.2.7-rh8-rh9-rpm/

works fine for me.
