I had the same problem on my Athlon XP; try using the i586 binaries, worked like a charm for me.

I just tried to install kernel-ntfs-2.6.5-1.358.i686.rpm under FC 2 . I received the error message: package kernel-ntfs-2.6.5-1.358 is intended for a i686 architecture Now, I'm pretty sure my machine is a 686 - it is a Celeron 1.3 GHz. uname -a gives: Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.5-1.358 #1 Sat May 8 09:04:50 EDT 2004 i686 \ i686 i386 GNU/Linux uname -i gives i386, and the documentation says that uname -i gives: `-i' `--hardware-platform' Print the hardware platform name (sometimes called the hardware implementation). The kernel rpm I have installed is kernel-2.6.5-1.358, and rpm -q --queryformat "%{ARCH}\n" kernel returns: i686 So, can anyone explain what's going on ?
