Someone recommended "The Linux TCP/IP Stack: Networking for Embedded
Systems" by Thomas F. Herbert on my blog. I haven't read it yet,

No, but having a userspace stack to play with (e.g. running the Linux
TCP/IP stack under UML) is very useful.
