Hi all,

I have had this happen to me now three times.
I have been using Demudi.
When I last installed Demudi it cames with a sources list that showed
debian testing.

But actually after installing many apps I needed they wrote a letter
saying not to use testing.

Now again I have a system that works perfectily.
I have mutt working finally, I have my win4lin setup and my wine setup
java, my scanner/printer etc.

but I can't install applications without dependency hell. You know
what I mean i want to install development stuff but end up with that
giant list of items to remove which includes my entire system. Or just
a deadend where my base packages interfere with installation.

That said, What I want to do is do a backup whereby:

All my settings will be preserved.
the more esoteric apps will be ready for me when I start
(mutt-ng)/win4lin kernel and apps
I will have a clean system based on only one release of debian.
I would actually like to have the demudi stuff as well.
other

I have usb flash memory cards 1gig and 128mg. I am not sure if this is
enough room to do the backup I need?

What should I use to backup with and how do I ensure that the files
remain uncorrupted?

The other option is a dist upgrade, which I have to date never been
successful with.

Any advice before I dive off the deep end into an empty swimming pool
(taskpool?) would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Aaron
