ok, good point.
Another way to disable ipv6 is blacklisting the module. Creating a new
file will be the best:

echo "blacklist ipv6" > /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ipv6
nice. should have guessed it myself.
Don't forget to reboot.

There is a problem:
This does not solve my dns problem. This may be because I am running the Debian under vmware, but I am not sure this is the case (same happens when the host is XP or OpenSUSE 10).

The solution from Baruch seems to work meanwhile. The solution from Billk seems promising (since it tackles the direct problem - dns from the modem.

BTW, how can I know the DNS servers sent to the modem under XP? This is slightly off-topic, but I want to know how come XP does work and all Linux'es I tries don't (Mandriva 2006, PCLinuxOS, Debian Etch, OpenSUSE 10.0).
