Hi people,

I have bought an ATI Radeon 9250 for my machine (it's AGP based, so I
cannot install any PCI Express card). I'm using Centos 4.4.

I updated the xorg.conf file and X comes up nicely, so I decided to go
ahead and try the ATI proprietary driver, so I can use Video Out on my
TV to watch video..

I downloaded the driver, tried to install.. boom, it fails. Searched a
bit through google, found out why (unless you kill X and remove the
"radeon" module, the installation fails. someone wasn't very smart
detecting an old module is already loaded).

I removed the module from memory, re-installed. Installation went ok,
but it didn't change the xorg.conf file, so I replaced the "radeon"
with "fglrx".

I started X, and then... blank screen. SSH'd the machine, X is not
running. No errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log..

My hardware configuration: 15" LCD connected through the VGA
connection to the screen. Nothing else.

Has anyone had this issue? any tips or recommendation?

The only reason I bought ATI card over NVidia's card is because ATI in
their Windows driver have this nice "theater" mode, which lets you
automatically see any video which is played in a small window on your
screen, in full screen on your TV without dragging any windows across
screens, and without any modifications. Does anyone knows a way to do
it with ATI through Linux? NVidia's cards can "clone" screen or extend
your drsktop to 2 screens, but you need to drag your playing window to
the other screen and switch to full screen play.

Thanks,
Hetz
