I don't like things that hinder free flow of speech, but I don't know
what levels of spam the list is going through either. I do know that, at
least on Hamakor's lists, heated discussions with language that was not
careful enough almost caused the entire NPO to fall apart (and yours
truly wasn't nearly careful enough to avoid some of those), and induce
very unpleasant atmosphere.

Usually I think that the proper thing to do is to shut down threads that
go out of hand, but if some heated language was stopped before it
reached the list due to an unrelated reason, I can't, personally, call
it a bad thing.

Please don't take it as a personal criticism against you. Like I said
above, I have suffered the bad judgment of sending messages that were,
in retrospect, better left in my "drafts" folder myself. I do believe
that such things happen to everyone.
