MediaWiki is one of the most powerful wiki engines out there. And, yes, it
does support Hebrew very well. I've deployed several instances of it on
iglu.org.il with great success.
It's not the only wiki that supports Hebrew. I know DokuWiki has some support
for Hebrew, but I'm not sure if you can change the direction ("ltr"/"rtl")
and the alignment in the middle of the page there, which you can with
MediaWiki.

Better in what respect? Some wiki engines have some advantages over MediaWiki
in some respects (while having many missing features), or a different
philosophy, and so may be more suitable for some needs. But if you aren't
going to stretch your wiki engine to its functional limits, then MediaWiki is
a very good choice.
