The URL points to ASX playlist, that is not always properly recognized as
such.

To be able to listen to the stream using mplayer, you need to specify that
the URL is a playlist:

mplayer -playlist '
http://switch3.castup.net/cunet/gm.asp?format=wm&ak=42191714&ClipMediaID=20853
'
