Done. Satisfied. The way YaST operates [Old one, Yast 1] is good enough.
System is installed and running.
Salient ghoches...
1. System, even after configuring X properly, has some problem booting
in
default runlevel=5. It has resulted in an active mess-up of the GUI
on my machine
which I will have to correct. [Except for root, other users have
problem starting X correctly] xdm starts automatically in runlevel 3.
Will have to check it.
2. Modules for ISA Soundcards are not loaded/configured automatically.
RHL 6.1
did this automatically for me. Here conf.modules had to be tinkered
with.
Good things..
1. The range of utilities and extreme-Linux incorporations is huge and I
must say
the range of packages supplied for computing is impressive.
Especially the range
for Ham-radio operations and the application for GPS.
2. Interruptible installations. It, effectively, does NOT take 6 GB,
unless you wish to install the sources also. I am, after going
through the intimidating list of 1500+ applications, contented to
say that 3.5 GB space was more than sufficient for me to have a
typical running system. I don't think I left out anything useful,
unlike german/chinese fonts and documentation. [Raytracers etc included]
Thanks for the help, Binand. We will mostly meet tomorrow. Not today.
Rohit
