Idea one: Read up the documentation first. Visit www.linux.com www.linux.org etc. and read & understand whatever you can first. Idea two: Also visit the various 'flavours' of linux [RedHat Mandrake Debian Slackware etc] on their websites. All this pre-reading will help you decide which is best for you (in terms of installation, hardware requirements, maintenance, etc) Idea three: Read some of the Linux-India digests (www.linux-india.org). This will give you information on how to procure linux in India. One method is to get it from PC Quest CD. But remember this is only one method. Another method is to join a LUG (Linux User Group) falling in your area and borrow a CD. If you have access to a good internet connection (very rare!!) then you can directly download from the ftp sites. BTW, where will you get a 486 in this day and age?!!
