I'm sure this is from lilo. I went thru the lilo.conf,
there is a field which says message. Its normally used
for displaying a message before the lilo prompt, but
when i examined the message file the field was
pointing to, it was some binary stuff. Maybe this
executes some escape sequence which lilo allows to get
control of the system's Video RAM. Its basically gotta
do the following things:

1. Set the Video Mode
2. send the bitmap to the video ram.
3. Cycle the colors by manipulating the palette, the
same way that doze system files do.

This will require a MAJOR hack, but i dunno how the
Corel guys are doing it. This comes up BEFORE the
kernel. It gives me a nice menu on the gfx, by which i
can select which part. ta boot from. Heck, its better
than OS/2 bootmanager, which needs a whole manager. I
know there're lot of space constraints in the boot
sector - 512 bytes isn't much, but it could be doing
the same thing like what its doing with the kernel...
save the physical address of the file on the
harddrive, and load it into RAM and transfer control.
SO, i wanna know what exactly is the format so that i
can put up Alan Cox on bootup! ;-)

I haven't been so fortunate as to getting FreeBSD. Its
simply not available here. I shud've got it at
Bang!inux, but the gt guyz have age old stuff. I've
seen gr8 reviews of FBSD, so i'm kinda waiting to try
it out... I'm already mad with Linux, it hangs my
Banshee, by overheating it, while doze runs it fine,
even tho the card is overheated... :=\

But i think some ppl. are taking Linus' statement of
"World Domination" too serious. The Linux BIOS project
isn't gonna make all u *BSD guys happy... ;-)
