That is ok, if your clients only access your pop / smtp server from a
certain fixed ip or ip block.  For those who don't have this (people with
roaming users) check out the SMTP-AUTH and POPAUTH features of the latest
versions of sendmail / qmail etc.  Your 8.9.3 supports this ok - or upgrade
to 8.10 for even better support.
