The first part is right, the second wrong. Make a Linux bootdisk (man
mkbootdisk),then reinstall windows, then boot off the bootdisk and run lilo.
The Windows install in no way touches the Linux partition (unless you run
fdisk) and therefore data on the Linux prtition is safe. Only your MBR is
overwritten, and that problem can be solved.
