IIRC, there was a merger of egcs and gcc. this was nearly a couple of years 
back. AFAIK, there's gcc 2.95.2 around, and i've stopped CVS'ing gcc loong back
it ain't worth the effort. so if gcc is the final product of the merger, i guess
that'll make egcs look ancient... that may be the cause of the size too... someone
willing to dig up the facts on it? i'm kinda too occupied to search around 
sourceware.cygnus.com... :=\

I remember having compiled a few kernels of 2.1 using egcs... specifically i 
remember 2.1.121 cuz i had sent a patch off fer that...
