Hi Jiju,
I did the above mentioned things. My BIOS is actually AMI 1.00.09.BCOR. I
checked with AMI about this, they said they only support their BIOS on
motherboards manufactured by them!!! My mobo is made by packard bell (so
is the machine) and the BIOS is also AMI with their own changes... They
(PB) are not providing any BIOS update as of now (for this version),
though they do have a lot of updates for other versions.
My BIOS is flashable. I tried "blind-upgrading" it - ie applying an
upgrade not meant for it - didn't work.
Now my doubt is abt the last part of u'r mail -
>>> if not, check whether it is seated in a socket, so
>>> that you can remove this and put in an updated one.
Do U mean to say that I can just plug out my BIOS from my mobo and PLUG in
*ANY* BIOS available in the market, or can I only go in for an UPDATED AMI
chip? Could U kindly enlighten me on the issues involved here (even a
link would really help). How much (roughly) would all this cost me???
Thanx a lot for the help...
Regards,
Narain.

try for a bios upgrade, check out at motherboards.org
or tomshardware.com, find your bios mfr, and a updated
version. before that make sure ur bios is flashable,
if not, check whether it is seated in a socket, so
that you can remove this and put in an updated one.
