I'm not sure why it's trying to do rhosts auth. My /etc/pam.d/imap looks
as follows:
$ cat /etc/pam.d/imap
#%PAM-1.0
auth required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so shadow nullok
account required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so
The problem may even be on the client side. Have you tried other imap
clients ? fetchmail in verbose mode might be good.
