I was aware of the vulnerabilites bind 8.2.2p5 ( vulnerable to spoofing and
dos attacks)
however, I was contemplating that the possible reason for named to die was
bcoz I was
making named believe that nameserver 2 is present where as
ns2 is mapped to an alias IP on eth0 and there is only 1 named running on
the box
so mebbe database sync and backup were running into dead ends and making
named to crash. (any comments on the ns1 / ns2 --> eth0 and eth0:1 config)

Got hold of bind 9.1 ( its got a bindconf alongwith it --- lets c wot that
has 2 offer )
btw came across some neat tools for Windoze -- DNS analyser
It analyses the entire domains / zones and gives an extremly detailed report
on the nameserver. Letme know if u b interested.
