Actually, yes. This is a known issue (and we can be forgiven for grumbling
if a magazine which releases a linux CD releases a broken version). Yeah,
they are doing their bit to support linux - that is definitely
praiseworthy.

However, if there is a broken version of whatever's being released, the
magazine's readers (who paid good money to buy it) will definitely be
disappointed. An expectation of quality is not unreasonable, especially
when we have to pay ~ Rs.100 or more :)

Hope PCQ releases more "linux specials". The work-a-day linux articles
which do appear in mags are really good, as a matter of fact. The problem
with them is that

1. being a mag, they have to keep the howto short for space constraints etc

2. most of the stuff that's published in the mag will have been discussed
threadbare (in far more detail) on the LI-* lists / comp.os.linux.*
newsgroups and such places. Also, excellent howtos will be available if you
know where to look <= google, linuxdocs, ibiblio.org ...

For someone who is not subscribed to LI-* and/or can't access the net, the
PCQ / chip etc articles and linux content on CDs are definitely far more
useful in terms of both howtos and software.

Their perceived value will be higher for such persons than for someone who's
got a dialup (or better, a broadband connection), and who can read linux
lists and download whatever he needs.
