do
$rpm -qi <packagename>
( Eg : rpm -qi egcs-c++ )
for installed packages and read the Description
do
$rpm -qip <packagename.rpm>
( Eg : rpm -qip egcs-c++-1.1.2-30.i386.rpm )
for packages that are not installed and read the Description
