When my machien starts after detection of hdd etc. bios flashes a message
on the screen which was going very fast. I never paid any attention to it.
Now when I saw what it is :

Primary IDE channel no. 80 conductor cable not installed.

Thus I think the poor throughput of hdparm is due to the cable. Will get
hold of a 80 wire cable during this weekend and post my results. Let's see
whether it makes any difference performance-wise for me.

Ashwin. What happened. Tried with 80 wire cable ?

Regards
