qmail is not a pop3 server.  If you are facing pop3 delays there are three
possiblities ...

1. Bad or mismatched dns / rDNS (set up reverse dns, ie put up PTR records
for all machines in your lan)

2. Identd lookups timing out (shutdown identd on your linux box)

3. A hosts.allow entry might be needed
