In 2.4.x kernel I did not find any option to compile fb. There is option
for video on console (something like that). However with the newly compiled
kernel I can use VGA=5 during startup and now my console mode looks good on 17"
monitor.
As u say, this might be the problem with i810 boards. I also don't get any
tux on startup.
