The issue has always been with the geometry of the hard disk not the
size. Lilo till not so long ago couldnt boot from partitions which were
beyond the 1024 cylinder. Either boot the first time from a floppy and
upgrade lilo or make a 10-50MB partition within 1024 cylinder using
fdisk.
