So start using pine or mutt on linux for mail :)
KMail did something similar to me. My mutt sent-mail folder is called
"Outbox". So when I fire up kmail for the first time, it sees ~/Mail/outbox
and thinks "hey, here are 400 unsent mails, let's send them out".
I caught on and killed kmail after the first 100 or so had gone out.
