untar the staroffice tar file
run ./setup /net 

Perform the above two steps as root.

Than login as user and go to /opt/office52/bin ( assuming u
have given path of staroffice as /opt/office52 and run
./setup from there without any switches. This will create a
directory office52 in the user's home and copy some 2MB
stuff. Then u can run soffice script from /opt/office52/bin
directory.
