Hi,
Ping your remote box and the linux box from each other to make sure they can
see each other.
See if telnet is actually working on your box. Check in /var/log/messages to
see if there are any error messages from telnet. See if you can telnet from
your own box. If telnet works from your box, then check /etc/hosts.allow and
/etc/hosts.deny and make necessary changes. Also check your firewall and make
the necessary changes there if required.
