One of the first things to check .. once the ISP says they've set you up,
just do something like
$ dig domain.com
$ dig domain.com MX
see that everything is OK, MX isn't pointing to a CNAME / directly to an IP,
the IPs are correct and there are no typos in the zonefiles (like no trailing
dot) etc etc.
[I remember a time when lists.ciol.com had that problem ... MX was set up as
spirit.sparklist.com instead of spirit.sparklist.com. - so the MX kept
showing up as the nonexistent spirit.sparklist.com.lists.ciol.com. in DNS
lookups. Got changed rather fast after I mailed them about it, tho, to their
credit]
