simply rename your .dat files and give them a .mpg extension. then use mplayer to play them.
it will work. in fact, you can also use xmms to play them (after enabling the "smpeg" plugin), and pause/rewind/stop with keyboard controls too, but the quality is nowhere near that rendered by mplayer, specially when you build mplayer with svgalib support and play movies from the console. now that we have mplayer (find the download link from freshmeat.net), i don't think there's need for any other mpeg/vcd/dvd/avi player. it's so far better than anything else. you can use "vcdimager" to rip mpeg tracks from vcd-s. again, look for it in freshmeat. there's even an rpm for it. it works great for me. you don't need to mount vcd-s, neither for ripping with vcdimager nor for playing with mplayer. when running vcdimager, be careful to cd to a partition that has enough free space, for it dumps the .mpg file in the current directory, and we know the size of those, don't we? :-) - tathagata. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
