Unfortunately, tar (unlike gzip) does not accept wildcards
for very valid reasons. Since tarring options vary, depen-
ding upon the switches chosen, there is too  much variabi-
lity in an "universal" untar, which just cannot be affect-
ed, covering all sub-varieties of a tarred archive.

IMHO, the best option is processing all files  in a script
(IIRC, Naren suggested one,  after  checking the integrity 
of the tarball for corrupted downloads) ...
