1) you are not supposed to untar your sources in /usr/local 2) other than apache all the other libraries should point to the place where the libraries are installed ... and not where the sources lie. Unless you know exactly what you are doing I'd suggest you stick with prepackaged binaries. (Redhat does come with php-ldap module.)
