the six-key cluster just above the cursor keys on my keyboard,
consisting of "home", "end", "del", "insert", "pgup" and "pgdn", has
suddenly stopped working.
when i log in as root they work fine. but as a normal user, when i
press any of them, all they do is print a tilde ("~"), whether i'm in
a virtual console or an xterm.
to be more precise, only "home" and "end" work in a virtual console,
and nothing works in an xterm.
inside applications, however, there is no problem. for instance, all
keys are working perfectly in the kmail window in which i am writing
now.
it is possible (i can't remember) that this started when i configured
and installed the bastille script. but i activated only the
firewalling rules in it, and left out local security measures, IIRC.
i'm using mandrake 8.1.
please advise.
