A friend has a laptop with a Compex 10Mb LinkPort pcmcia Ethernet card. The
card is detected and the pcnet-cs driver is auto-loaded by the kernel. The
card corresponds to eth0, which I'm able to up. However, once I up the eth0
interface, I am neither able to receive or send out any packets from the
interface. "ifconfig eth0" reveals that TX and RX are zero bytes, but the
number of frames keeps on increasing. There is no firewall enabled on the
box.

The card is detected as a NE2000 compatible card, and is assigned irq 9 and
io 0x300. The laptop's running redhat 7.2 with pcmcia-cs 3.1.30, and a
2.4.16 kernel. And the pcmcia-cs docs do mention that this particular card
is supported.

Frankly, I'm stumped as to why the interface can be configured, but I'm
unable to send or receive any packets on it. Can someone help? I really
need to get this working to convince my friend that linux will work on his
laptop.... the first experiment with a usb modem failed, and if this fails
too, I'm not sure he'll want to continue with linux.....

Regards,
Vinu.
