.png is quite a common format under Linux/ *nix.

To view : o Any GUI browser (netscape/ opera etc)
          o On console - zgv
          o GUI - any viewer, for command line fast viewing  I
            would suggest 'display' from  Imagemagick package.
            XV, xzgv is also suitable.

To create/ Edit: gimp

To convert from some other format to .png: 'convert' from Ima-
gemagick package.
