In fact my first mail in this thread was sent from kmail..it should show in
the headers. the sendmail logs are as follows

Dec 24 12:31:11 localhost sendmail[1743]: fBO71BS01743: from=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,
size=844, class=0, nrcpts=0, msgid=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,
proto=SMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]
Dec 24 12:31:11 localhost sendmail[1743]: fBO71BS01743:
to=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, delay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=844,
dsn=4.4.3, stat=queued
Dec 24 12:34:55 localhost sendmail[1830]: fBO71BS01743:
to=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, delay=00:03:44, xdelay=00:00:06,
mailer=esmtp, pri=90844, relay=mail.sourceforge.net. [216.136.171.198], dsn=2.0.0,
stat=Sent (OK id=16IP3X-0000ay-00)

Notice the difference in the from header in the sendmail logs and in the
mail, the address in the logs is the same as that of the default identify in
kmail. This happens irrespective of which identity i choose to send the mail
from.
