thanks everybody for the response.. i played with mrtg, opennms, and netsaint .. i think netsaint suits the requirements, coupled with nmap ( as a cron) for automatic host file generation and ntop (for detailed traffic analysis)... i still need something for snmp management, opennms is more of a monitoring tool than management ( or so i feel), also my client wants automatic asset management which is a feature provided by snmp, but is not available in opennms. ( u have to manually enter asset info in its database)
trying to make some script for asset management and couple it with netsaint any comments? gaurav -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Shanker Balan Sent: Monday, December 24, 2001 11:09 AM To: Linux India Help Subject: [LIH] Re: Open source network management tools Hello: Suresh Ramasubramanian wrote, > +++ Shanker Balan [linux-india] <24/12/01 10:04 +0530>: > > MRTG is a graphing tool. I think what gaurav wants is OpenNMS! Dunno much about HP's OpenView, never had a chance to play with it. AFAIK, OpenNMS is the only _GPL_ NMS of its kind. But system requirements for OpenNMS is ridiculous - 512MB min reqd. I think this has now fallen to 256MB. The features and functionality is outlined at http://www.opennms.org/product/features/ -- Shanu -- Emperor Palpatine: Take your Jedi weapon! Use it.
